Burns celebration Bannockburn High School hosted its third annual Burns Supper event on Friday. Around 60 people from the community including Fairview, Margaret Blackwood and William Simpson care facilities and the Friends of Bannockburn attended a two-course meal. The afternoon began with welcome and introductions from headteacher Mr McParland who also recited the Selkirk Grace. The haggis was then ably piped in by Euan Fraser followed by Miss Sharon Kelly, the Haggis Bearer, and finally Aiden McGrory and Liam Raeside of S6 who performed the Address to the Haggis. While the visitors tucked into haggis, neeps and tatties the school’s young performers entertained throughout the afternoon. Highland danc- ers Ailsa Dunlop and Erin Wilson performed as did a number of singers and musicians. These included a folk set with Ryan Brown, Euan CrawfordMcKee and Eva Crawford-McKee. The audience also enjoyed: Jock O’Hazeldene (Ellie Wallace); Ae Fond Kiss (Rachel Dick and Alexander McBroom); My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose (Megan Bryce); and Dark Island (Katrina Kirsop and Erin Leamy). Class 1S1 had been quickly trained in the basics of table service and were “a credit to the school” serving and helping the guests. The food was once again delicious and prepared by the catering staff within the school. Mr McParland hosted throughout the afternoon and a thank you was addressed to Mrs Donaldson, a former school administrator who attended the afternoon. Mrs Donaldson had served the school for over 30 years and had retired in 1995.
