Can parents/ carers please also ensure that all school uniform is marked clearly with child’s name, in particular school blazers. There are a number of blazers with no names on them in lost property making it difficult to reunite them with their owner. Vaccinations DPT/MenC Vaccinations and Catch Ups are being held in school tomorrow (Thurs- day) for S3 girls and boys and for any other pupils who were missed in the last round. Warning Please note that school pupils should be dropped off at the rear of the school building and not at the front. This is for Health and Safety issues both for Stirling High pupils and for neighbouring St Ninians Primary School pupils too as this area can become congested at peak times. Staff Development Days The dates for staff development days are February 13 and 14, thereafter there are three days of local holidays from February 15-17. Pupils will return to school on Monday, February 20. Shabbat celebrations One have been learning about Shabbat - Judaism’s day of rest and seventh day of the week as part of their RME Topic this term and invited their Buddies to join in a Shabbat celebration with them. They prepared their own table mats and practised some songs and dances to perform for their Buddies. They had to teach them the moves and surprised them with a conga line around the classroom! The children also got to try some grape juice and challah bread which Jewish Junior families often have during the celebration. DNA pendants J6 pupils at Beaconhurst have the chance to experience life in senior school as part of the transition programme. They recently paid a visit to the Science department where they took part in an activity which involve turning their own DNA into pendants! Poetry challenge Rhiannon Gill (S6) recently represented Beaconhurst in the National Poetry Competition. She took part in a regional final of Poetry by Heart Scotland hosted by Glenalmond College. Poetry by Heart Scotland is a national competition, organised by the Scottish Poetry Library, in which students perform two poems from a selection chosen by the Scottish Poetry Library. The standard was extremely high and Georgi Gill and Marjorie Lotfi Gill, both poets in their own right, were the judges. Although Rhiannon received high praise for her “natural voice for poetry” she was narrowly beaten by the winner from Glenalmond who now goes through to the national final. Open afternoon Prospective families have the chance to see Beaconhurst in action tomorrow (Thursday) at an open afternoon from 2.30-4.30pm. There will be guided tours around the campus as pupils and staff go about their normal business giving a real insight into how Beaconhurst operates. There will also be the opportunity to speak with members of the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Department, teachers and pupils. More details of the open afternoon are available on the school website – www.beaconhurst.com – and prospective visitors are asked to contact the school in advance if they wish to come along.
