County look for a Watsonians scalp

Stirling aim for the double over Edinburgh side

- Donald Morton

Stirling County return to BT Premiership action on Saturday with a visit to the capital to play Watsonians, kick-off at Myreside is 3pm.

County are currently in seventh position in the league, only three points above the relegation places, and will be looking to complete the double over the Edinburgh side, following their narrow 21-19 victory at Bridgehaugh in October.

They will be without their Scotland Under-20 players Calum Hunter-Hill, Adam Nicol, Fergus Bradbury and Craig Pringle, who are likely to be included in the national agegrade squad for the Six Nations match in France this weekend.

However, the Bridgehaugh team will be looking to build on their impressive BT Cup victory at Dundee in their last outing, when the players drafted in to the County 1st XV squad to cover the international absentees, gave a good account of themselves.

In the BT Cup, Stirling County have been drawn at home to fellow BT Premiership side Boroughmuir in the quarterfinal with the match being played on Saturday, March 4.

It will be the third meeting of the teams this season with the Edinburgh side coming out 35-28 winners at Meggatland in September and COunty winning 21-15 at home in November. The winners will travel to either Melrose or Heriot’s in the semi-final.

County’s re-arranged BT Premiership home match against Melrose has now been scheduled for Saturday, March 11. ● Lunches are served before County’s 1st XV Premiership matches at Bridgehaugh; the next one is Saturday, February 18 at 1pm prior to the Heriots games.
