Montrose bounce back to take all three points

Stirling Albion .............. 1 Montrose ...................... 2 A bad end to a terrible week saw Stirling slump to second bottom of the Ladbrokes League 2 table as Montrose came from behind to move to within a point of the play-offs.

Blair Henderson’s early penalty was overturned in the second half by a goal from Chris Templeman and a late Graham Webster spot-kick as Albion once again self-destructed.

Following the 4-1 loss at Annan and the 3-2 midweek Scottish Cup exit at Clyde, it was another massive blow in a season where SPFL survival is now the sole aim.

Dave Mackay’s men remain three points above Cowdenbeat­h – whose home match with Elgin City fell victim to a waterlogge­d pitch – and host Berwick in another crucial game on Saturday.

It’s hard to make a case for them winning it after contriving to lose to a Montrose side who didn’t play particular­ly well but still managed to dig out a third straight 2-1 victory.

As if the defeat wasn’t bad enough, the Binos lost Willie Robertson to what looked like a serious knee injury after a bad tackle from Terry Masson and fellow midfielder Calvin Colquhoun was sent off in stoppage time for picking up a second yellow card in an off-the-ball incident.

Stirling have played six games in 2017. They have gone ahead in all of them but their only victory was the first fixture of that sequence – a 3-0 defeat of Clyde. That seems a long time ago now and keeping a clean
