Police hunt youths after bus window is smashed

- Robert Fairnie

Three youths are being hunted by police after they put passengers at risk by smashing the window of a bus travelling through Stirling.

The trio, described as three boys aged between 11 and 15, launched an object at a double decker bus, smashing an upstairs window near to where several alarmed members of the public were sitting.

The incident happened at around 5.30pm on Saturday as the vehicle was travelling on Coxithill Road, on a regular service between Raploch and St Ninians.

Witnesses on the bus describe seeing the youths, who were outside on the pavement, throw a large object at the window causing the damage.

One of those responsible was said to be wearing a red top.

Police are hunting for the trio on grounds of culpable and reckless conduct — a more serious charge than vandalism — due to the danger their irresponsible actions posed to the public.

Inspector Donna Bryans of Stirling police office insists the actions of the youngsters could have had catastrophic consequences.

She said: “We are appealing for anyone who knows the identity of these youths to come forward and get in touch.

“These actions could have caused serious harm to those travelling on the bus.

“This was an extremely dangerous thing to do.”

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or knows the identity of those responsible, is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
