Main road shut from Monday

-

Major roadworks will start in Stirling next week.

On Wednesday we reported that Alloa Road will close at Causewayhead for around five weeks to allow gas mains to be replaced.

Utilities firm SGN said yesterday (Thursday) that the road closure, which begins on Monday and runs between the Manor Powis and Causewayhead roundabouts, is necessary to maintain gas supplies in the area.

A signed diversion route will be in place for motorists via the A91, A905 Kerse Road, Burghmuir Road and Causewayhead Road. HGVs and buses will be diverted further via Causewayhead Road, the B823, Henderson Street and Airthrey Road, due to the low bridge at Bridgehaugh.

Access for residents will be maintained at all times and all businesses in the area will remain open as usual.

SGN project manager Craig Beatson said: “We’re aware this is a busy route and would like to assure local residents and motorists we’ll be working as hard as we can to complete this work as quickly as possible.

“We will be working extended hours and weekends when we can.

“The new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years, which means once the work has been completed local homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”

The works are set to be completed ahead of the Stirling Marathon and a proposed closure of the Kerse Road bridge in May.

In 2015 Causewayhead Road was shut for around three months to replace piping.
