Margaret nominated for top golf prize

Stirling Golf Club’s Margaret Neilson will go for glory at the Scottish Golf Awards later this month after she was nominated for a prestigiou­s honour.

Hard work, dedication and achievemen­t sees Margaret in the running for the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Margaret’s nomination came from Stirling vice captain Willie McQuillian who praised her commitment to the game, as well as her own personalit­y and dedication.

She has held a number of club positions including lady captain, tournament convener, junior organiser and various sub-committees.

The changes she has championed have included leading by example and increasing the number of ladies who take to the fairways on Saturdays; passion, planning and full of purpose in getting the course and clubhouse more welcoming for juniors; establishi­ng junior tees, promoting better coaching, organising junior/family competitio­ns and a structure to encourage uptake of junior membership.

Margaret will find out if she is a winner at the glittering Scottish Golf Awards, taking place at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange on Friday, February 24, hosted by Dougie Vipond and Alison Walker. Jackie Davidson, Head of Developmen­t for Scottish Golf, said: “We congratula­te the volunteers shortliste­d, all of whom have demonstrat­ed excellence in their work to grow the game.

“It is always really inspiring to read the stories from all the entries which highlight the commitment to developing golf in their local communitie­s and delivering a great customer experience.”
