Bobby sweeps up gold
Stirling student Bobby Lambie has won gold at the World University Winter Games as part of the Team GB’s men’s curling team.
The sport and exercise science student from Forfar helped the British boys defeat Sweden by 8-6 – making it 11 wins in a row in the competition, which was held in Kazakhstan last week.
Raleigh Gowrie, sports performance manager at Stirling University said: “Bobby and the rest of the British men’s curling team deserve to be applauded for their outstanding performance at the games.
“Their unblemished score sheet indicates the level of talent in the sport at the moment.”
“At Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence we support students who want to compete at the highest level in a number of year-round sports.
“Curling is no different and we are now working with our partners in the sport to support curling athletes for the first time.
“With plans for a new National Curling Centre in Stirling underway, we believe we are best-placed to support young athletes looking to progress in the sport.”
Stirling was also represented by postgraduate student Rachel Hannen, who was part of the curling team which finished fifth, and Students’Union sports development co-ordinator Christopher Purdie who attended as part of the Team GB official delegation.
