Lord Lieutenant retires
Stirling Provost Mike Robbins hosted a reception for retiring Lord Lieutenant Marjory McLachlan.
Mrs McLachlan has served the Stirling and Falkirk area for 12 years, having been appointed to the post by The Queen in 2005.
But today (Wednesday) she is officially leaving the role with former Deputy Lieutenant Alan Simpson OBE stepping up to be her replacement.
Provost Robbins said:“I have greatly enjoyed working with Marjory over the years.
“Her dedication to her role as Lord Lieutenant has been admirable and she has taken a real interest in participating in all events and activities going on within her Lieutenancy area.”
The reception saw Mrs McLachlan’s career celebrated with guests including Falkirk Provost Pat Reid and representatives from various local community groups and organisations.
The role of the Lord Lieutenant is to uphold the dignity of the Crown by arranging all Royal visits to the area, representing The Queen by presenting honours and awards, liaising with local military units, attending civic and social activities and ensuring The Queen’s private office is kept informed about local issues.
New Lord Lieutenant Mr Simpson has held various voluntary positions down the years – including Chair of Court at the University of Stirling between 2007 and 2015.
He is also currently chairman of Lake of Menteith Fisheries and the Macrobert Arts Centre, in addition to being an elder of Port of Menteith Church.
