Ladbrokes League Two

-

Albion’s poor defensive record has been a big factor in their perilous position near the foot of the Ladbrokes League 2 table and Mackay went with a 3-5-2 system against Berwick, although it didn’t prevent the Shielfield men scoring twice and carving out a number of good opportunities.

He said: “With the goals we have been conceding I thought we would go with a back three and it suits Ross Forsyth to play in that system. I thought he did well, especially as he has not played for a while.

“There is still an awful lot to work on but it’s a point that we certainly didn’t look like getting 10 minutes before the end. It was a great finish from Sean for the equaliser and we could have won it at the end if Blair had taken his chance – we didn’t deserve to win the game but we would have taken it.”

Stirling Albion lost 5-3 on their last visit to Gayfield at the end of August then stormed back for a 2-2 draw in Mackay’s second game in charge thanks to Dickson’s late, late double.

Dick Campbell’s men have won five away games in a row, most recently 3-1 at Montrose, but have lost to Forfar and Annan on home turf since the turn of the year.

Mackay said: “In my opinion Forfar and Arbroath are the two best teams by a bit of a distance. We had a good comeback to draw 2-2 here when we played Arbroath the last time so hopefully we’ll now go there with a bit more confidence than we would have done if the Berwick game had finished after 85 minutes.”

Stirling Albion’s home match with Elgin City, postponed on Saturday, January 21 due to the Scottish Cup fourth-round tie with Clyde, will now be played on Tuesday, February 28, kick-off 7.45pm, and is sandwiched between crucial fixtures with Edinburgh City at Forthbank and Cowdenbeath at Central Park.
