Ex-head girl Erin takes pupils round Holyrood

- Balfron High School Junk Kouture Scottish Parliament visit

It was a fabulous day and a really good experience for the pupils and also for the other groups who came along to support the show at night. Mavia and Kate were excellent on the catwalk while Martha and Gabriella were fantastic at hair and make-up.

There were some fantastic performances from Balfron High athletes at the Emirates Arena last week.

The under 16 1500m runners can all be proud of their performances and Rosie Eckersley reached her final as did Rachael Methven in shot. Matt Chandler just missed a medal, coming fourth in pole vault. Katie Burr (under 16) had a great run, winning her 200m heat but she and Anna Cameron (over 16) missed their finals by one place to come ninth in Scotland. Both girls have another two years in the same age group, so next year will be very exciting. The second day brought a competitive hurdles final with Briagha Cook finishing fourth and Katie Burr in fifth. Anna Cameron also just missed a medal, coming fourth in long jump with Esther Ross ninth. Anna also made the final of the 60m and Emily Corrigan made the semi in the under 16s 60m. Maddie Woods came second in her 300m semi and Murphy Hand ran a good race to come second in his 800m heat. Elizabeth Thompson ran really well to win her 300m heat and reach the semi. Amy Kirkpatrick also ran impressively to win her 800m heat and reach her final. Matt Chandler was unlucky in narrowly missing medals in both hurdles and high jump. Thanks to all the athletes and parents for an two exciting days.

On Thursday, February 9 the National 5 and Higher Modern Studies pupils took part in an extremely useful and successful excursion to the Scottish Parliament.

The visit began with an excellent tour by former head girl Erin McKee, who now works part-time for Stirling MSP, Bruce Crawford, whilst completing her studies at Edinburgh University. Pupils then watched a fiery First Minister’s Question Time, which heavily focused on the subject of educational attainment. The day finished with lunch in one of the Parliament’s committee rooms and a fantastic question and answer session with Mr Crawford.
