PARTY CROWD TURN ON COPS

Ten officers called when revellers become hostile

- Court reporter

Two men and a teenager have been spared jail following a disturbance in which police officers were injured at a house in Bridge of Allan.

The three appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday afternoon but breathed a huge sigh of relief when Sheriff Wyllie Robertson declined to impose custodial sentences.

A 17-year-old from Fallin appeared alongside 19-year old Cameron MacKenzie from Henderson Street, Bridge of Allan, and Brandon Mieklejohn (20), from Westwood Cescent, Stirling.

All three admitted police assault charges.

Police were called to the disturbance on September 10 at Orchard Road, Bridge of Allan.

Fiscal depute Lindsey Brooks told the court: “It was 8pm on Saturday night when police received complaints of a noisy party.

“They attended and heard loud noises.”

The court was told the house was full of people partying, who became “hostile and abusive” to officers.

Ms Brooks added: “The police said they were there about the noise but the response was further abuse towards the police, which became more and more threatening.

“The two police officers there didn’t feel that they could deal with the numbers.” At this point up to 10 officers arrived at the scene.

Revellers then began filming the police presence on mobile phones.

Officers noted shouts of “f*** the police”.

The police tried to gain entry to the property before the homeowner finally arrived with a set of keys.

When police unlocked and opened the door it was pushed shut.

Ms Brooks added: “When police entered there were a large number of people within, running about and throwing things.”

Police officers went upstairs and discovered a bedroom that had been barricaded shut but forced their entry.

At that point MacKenzie attacked one of them, punching him in the head several times and causing his nose to bleed heavily.

Another officer entered the room and struck Mackenzie with his batonhim.

The 17-year-old was being arrested when he attempted to kick an officer.

Two other officers spotted Mieklejohn on a bed and he began shouting and kicking out at them before finally being restrained by straps.

Sentencing the three, Sheriff Robertson said: “This is a serious disturbance involving yourself and ten police officers.

“I’m not going to send you to custody but I’m going to sentence you to a community payback order.” Mieklejohn was ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and was placed under supervision for 18 months.

MacKenzie was also ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and was placed on a year’s supervision. He was also ordered to pay £750 compensation.

The 17-year-old was placed on a year’s supervision.

He was also appearing before the court for attempting to punch a McDonald’s worker.

Sentence on that charge was deferred for him to be of good behaviour.
