Raploch revamp gathers pace with planning nod

Council give the go-ahead for 431 homes on six sites

Work on the next phase of revamping the Raploch could start next year.

Earlier this week, planning permission was granted in principle for 431 homes to be built at six sites.

The application was submitted by Robertson Homes, who will work in partnership with the council to build private and affordable houses as part of the regeneration of the area.

And workers could be on site in less than 12 months, with detailed plans being prepared for the development.

Katherine Mackintosh, managing director of Robertson Regeneration, said: “We are delighted that planning permission in principle has been approved for the proposed housing development at Raploch.

“We will now work with stakeholders to prepare the detailed planning application which we would hope to submit in the summer with a start on site early in 2018.

“This is a transformational project and we are excited to bring forward a mix of affordable and private houses for sale which will play a significant role in the regeneration of the area.”

The development proposes 71 affordable homes at Gowanhill Gardens, 108 affordable units at Craigforth Crescent, 16 at Kildean and 18 at Drip Road near Sainsbury’s.

A further 160 private units and 58 affordable homes are planned for a large site at Raploch Road.

The development was initially proposed as part of the Raploch Regeneration Initiative, which began more than a decade ago but stalled when the recession hit the housing market.

A masterplan for the site, plus planning permission in principle, was granted on Tuesday, subject to a range of conditions.

A council spokeswoman said planning applications for each of the sites would have to be considered by planners. She added: “Once developed these sites will complete the redevelopment of Raploch in line with the approved masterplan.

“Design and other details will now be worked up and these will come forward in further applications to be considered by the Planning Panel.”
