World Day of Prayer Service for the six churches will take place in Norrieston Church Hall, Thornhill today (Friday) at 2pm. All welcome. Lenten Walk Those interested in the first Lenten Walk should meet at Norrieston Church Hall, Thornhill tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am. Walks normally last about an hour. Coffee Morning Guild Coffee Morning will take place from 10.30amnoon on Saturday, March 18. Used stamps Heather Dunlop, 10 Oakwood, collects used stamps to aid a charity for the blind. Leave a narrow margin of paper round the stamps and hand them to Heather or leave them for her in McNicoll’s. Music For Syrians A fundraisin­g concert in response to the Syrian crisis will take place in Kippen Church tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm when a Syrian classical guitarist will play. Cancer whist The final committee meeting this year takes place in the manse on Monday, March 6 at 8pm. Ploughing match The century-old annual match of the Arnprior and District Ploughing Scoety was again rained off at Macorristo­n Farm, Thornhill on Saturday. It is now cancelled for 2017. \Port of Menteith

Plant and home baking sale On May 6 a plant and home baking sale will be held in the village hall. Any donations of plants or home baking are welcome. This will be a joint service with Aberfoyle in the Port Kirk at 10.30am led by Rev Jim Landels. The Lenten Walks for

2017 are as follows: March 4 - meeting at Norrieston Church Hall; March 11 - meeting at Gartmore Church and March 18 - meeting at Kippen Church. All walks start at 10am. All welcome. Blethers On Sunday, March 5 the group is doing the annual litter pick at the hall from 10am. There will be soup, home baking, tea and coffee for all on the day.

WI news Members were fortunate at the last meeting that the local minister made time in her busy schedule to talk about her childhood home in North Dakota, USA. The Rev Ellen Larson Davidson thought her home town was in many ways similar to life in Thornhill, with farming being a major activity. After Lin Waller presented the minister with a plant arrangemen­t she stayed with the group for tea and cakes. Competitio­n results: A piece of patchwork - 1 L Waller; 2 K Bain; 3 Margaret Brown. An American souvenir - 1 Margaret Brown; 2 M Fraser; 3 J MacKenzie. Gardening Society The next meeting will be held in Norrieston Church Hall on Wednesday, March 22 when a member of staff from Stirling Council will talk about what they do with garden waste. Non-members are welcome to attend.
