A festival date with TV’s Gary

Highland Games to have Foodie event

- Gareth Jones

Those who enjoy fine food or a nice tipple can look forward to two festivals taking place in Stirling.

The organisers of the Stirling Highland Games have revealed that a food festival will play a major part in this year’s events. And the Stirling Gin Festival is set to return after a popular third outing last year. The Stirling Foodie Fest will be held at the Highland Games on Saturday August 19, with Masterchef the Professionals winner Gary Maclean taking centre stage. Marquees will be erected for the event, giving visitors the chance to relax, wander, sample, purchase and enjoy food from a range of local producers – and Gary will host a question and answer. The chef said: “I am really excited to be part of the inaugural Stirling Foodie Fest. “I think having a quality food and drink offering as part of the main event will attract a massive following of foodies from through the UK. Stirling’s location is so central and visitors will be able to get a hands-on experience with some of Scotland’s award winning producers.”

Tickets go on sale this Friday (March 10) for Stirling Gin Festival, which has expanded following sell-out 2016 tastings which drew praise for boosting the city’s economy.

The popular two-day event – organised by Bridge of Allan couple June and Cameron McCann, who are co-founders of Stirling Whisky Shop – takes place at the Stirling Highland Hotel on November 3 and 4.

June said: “Ever since last year’s gin festival closed its doors, we’ve had people asking us when the next one is taking place and when the tickets will be going on sale.

“Everyone had a fantastic time and we had over 700 gin-lovers across the two sessions who had the chance to hear about lots of different gins and sample up to 50 brands from 22 companies.”

A variety of different gins, including flavoured versions, will be featured at the festival from well-known brands such as Edinburgh Gin, Brockmans, Porters, Eden Mill and Pickerings.
