- Donald Morton

Stirling University is throwing open its archives to the public as part of Stirling Open Doors Day on Saturday, March 18.

And an invite has gone out to visitors to share their memories by bringing along old photos of campus life to add to the archive collection.

Material documenting the history of the university including extensive photographic collections and new Timeline exhibition, will be open to the public.

Anyone with stories to tell, or memories to share, can contribute to the Stirling Stories project, which is being organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Head archivist Karl Magee said: “As part of the university’s 50th anniversary celebrations we are delighted to share the rich, colourful, and sometimes surprising, history of Stirling with visitors to our Open Doors Day. It’s great to provide access to this unique resource for this special event.”

Urging people to come forward with stories or photographs, Karl added: “We are always keen to add to the collective story of the university and hope that visitors will bring along photographs and other memorabilia relating to the university.

“We can then create digital copies of this material which will be added to the archive.

“Students will also be on hand to interview visitors about their memories of the university, creating an important new resource which will provide further insights into the history of the university.”

Opening up the Archive: 50 Years of Life on Campus will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, March 18.
