Young talent bands together
Acting stars of the future are preparing to hit the big stage.
Some of Stirling’s top young talent will perform Musical Differences at the Macrobert on Saturday (March 11) at 7.30pm.
The show charts a band’s rise through their school years, and is based on a script that is specially written for youngsters.
“I think it is very important that there are scripts written especially for young people, as there is a lot of strong writing out there,” said director Lucy Wild.
“But there are not a lot of scripts for younger people, and the ones that there are have been done a million times.
“The story features issues that young people are interested in, and think about. It features things like Snapchat, which features in their lives.”
The play is being put on as part of the National Theatre Connections project – where scripts are devised for young people and then performed by groups across the country.
The group, made up of nine actors aged between 14 and 18, will
perform Musical Differences at the Macrobert and then at the Traverse in Edinburgh.
Lucy said: “The group we have here really are talented and brilliant. They work really hard, most of them are very interested in theatre and it is essentially something they want to pursue as a career.”
The story - by playwright Robin French - focuses on a group of friends who are in third year at school. Alex Stokes forms his own rock band and teams up with a mysterious young singer by the name of Joel Lawrence. What follows could well be the most incredible saga in the school’s history.
The band survives different lineups, impossible love affairs and brutal school politics – but is the price for survival too high?
