Honesty at heart of comic Susan’s show

-

Susan Calman is looking forward to heading out on tour.

The comedian has become a well -known face, and voice, in recent years with regular appearances on television and the radio.

However the Glaswegian has recently embarked on a stand-up tour which will run right through until the autumn.

“People might come and see me because they have heard me on the radio, and might think I am a bit Radio Four,” she told the Observer.

“They might not be sure about what my stand-up is going to be like; I am the same person but it is a good opportunity for me to have some fun.

“The show is very similar to how you might hear me on the radio. It is a little bit more honest, and detailed. But I am not the type of person that puts on a persona, I just tell the same type of stories and make the same observations.”

The tour - entitled the Calman Before the Storm - calls in at the Macrobert on Friday, April 7 with Susan examining pre-conceptions that people may have about her.

She said: “Last time I was in Stirling I played at the Tolbooth, but it is nice to go back to the Macrobert.

“I played there about three years ago, but have never played the main theatre. It is a good one for me to get home to Glasgow too.”

With a gruelling schedule ahead, Susan is preparing for a long few months on the road - with only a few weeks off in the summer to decorate a new house she has recently moved into.

“My last dates for this tour are in October. It is a long, long time to be on the road. People sometimes ask me why I am not visiting a specific place, and often it is to do with availability of venues.

“I was in Newcastle on Monday because it was the only time that the venue was free.

“There is the stress of getting to the venues. Often it involves several trains, and can take a whole day to get there.”
