Set for stableford
Golfers to start formal season with King James IV
After last Saturday’s opening day, players at Stirling Golf Club start the season in earnest with the first competition of 2017, the King James IV Stableford (500th Trophy).
David Herron defends the trophy and all players are respectively reminded the format is Stableford with the gross score at each hole entered on the card. Any player who cannot score a point should pick up his ball to avoid any unnecessary slow play.
Handicap adjustments are only made on points, not gross score, and preferred lies are in operation.
Entries are now being accepted from both visitors and members online for the Open Gents Wilson Salver on Sunday, May 21.
The format has been changed from foursomes to greensomes and players will enjoy the extra benefits including both players playing all par threes. Entry fee is £15 per couple with a fantastic list of prizes.
All players are reminded of slow play and behaviour – see full details on the club website. Any group that has lost a complete hole on the group ahead should wave through faster groups.
If it is likely that a ball may be lost, unplayable or out of bounds, a provisional ball should be played before going forward. Players searching for a ball should, as soon as they realise the ball will not be quickly found, signal the group behind to play up.
To assist M&H with running the competitions and also to avoid any potential disqualification, on completion of rounds, players should ensure scorecards are fully completed with name, handicap, start time, club competition name with signatures from both marker and player and scores entered in the computer and cards deposited in box.
The club is holding a special open eveing to encourage people to take up the sport.
Last year, they ran the “Get Into Golf” sponsored by Scottish Golf, and will be organising the programme again.
The Get Into Golf Open Evening takes place on Thursday, March 30 at 6.30pm at the club when team memebrs will outline the programme and offer encouragement to anyone interested to get started.
The programme includes sixweek group coaching course at £60 per person; loan of equipment; volunteer members buddying new players on to the course to get to grips with etiquette and course management and a play package so people can continue to play while they decide if they want to join.
