- Chris Marzella

A Callanderbased charity was recognised at a national awards ceremony.

Trossachs Mobility were named as a runner-up in the Scottish Rural Awards last week.

The group have set up an initiative that allows people with mobility issues to explore the local terrain and the Callander hub provides the use of allterrain wheelchairs.

Trustees from the charity attended the awards ceremony at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh and were delighted to be named as runner-up in the business start-up category.

Gordon Wilson, Wayne Johnson and Malcolm McAdam accepted the award.

Wayne said: “Seeing these happy faces makes all the work invested more than worthwhile and the award is a nice recognition of the work that all of us have put in to make it happen. I can’t thank all involved enough.”

Malcolm added: “Being a part of a great selection of finalists in our group was in itself reward enough as in my eyes everyone was a winner. I salute them and wish them every success in the future.”

The group were nominated for the award by Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Dean Lockhart, who said: “It was a privilege to nominate Trossachs Mobility for the award and great to be there on the evening itself to watch them collect it.”

Councillor Martin Earl, whose ward covers Callander, said: “The charity has travelled a long way in a short time and it has been a privilege to have helped get them up and running.

“This is a real team effort and they thoroughly deserved the award. I look forward to seeing the organisation grow and offer independent access to our magnificent countryside to those that without this equipment would not be able to do so.”

Trossachs Mobility have a van which allows them to take the chairs to events and demonstrations.

Finalists from the Stirling area at the awards included the Monachyle Mhor Hotel in Balquhidder and The Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum, who were both nominated for the rural employer of the year.

Balfron-based Art4you Scotland, Nick Nairn Cook School in Port of Menteith and Steven Burgess Furniture and Interiors in Arnprior were all finalists for the education award.
