Survey pledge for Causewayhead ‘rat run’ that’s causing houses to vibrate
Residents’concerns about speeding causing their homes to vibrate are set to be investigated.
Householders in Dumyat Road and Easter Cornton Road in Causewayhead have called for new speed measures to be fitted.
They are concerned about motorists using the area as a rat run, with drivers using the route to avoid Causewayhead Road, and have said that traffic is shaking their homes when going over the existing worn-down speed bumps.
Ross Oxburgh, who is standing for the Conservatives in the upcoming council elections, said there are growing concerns that current traffic calming measures are not fit for purpose, and that vibration could cause damage to homes.
He said:“It is time Stirling Council got wise to this problem. This is causing a great deal of anxiety and it may be only a matter of time before some serious damage occurs. Many residents tell me they have been raising this issue with the council for years and yet have received no response.
“Obviously nobody wants to impede the legitimate use of the road by drivers servicing local businesses. However the council must acknowledge that it is also a residential area and create a road infrastructure which is fit for both uses. It is obvious the current speed bumps and unenforceable speed restrictions are not working. The council should listen to the concerns of residents and adopt a common sense approach by installing chicanes.”
When contacted by the Observer, Stirling Council said that it would be carrying out surveys in the area.
A council spokesperson said: “Following discussion with residents in the area we have agreed to undertake surveys to determine what noise or vibration issues existing traffic calming measures cause, and at the same time determine the extent of the speeding problem at this location. Further decisions to mitigate any problems will be taken once this data has been gathered and assessed.”
