Party night start of things to come

Organisers look to next event after gig success

Top DJ George Bowie was all smiles in Fallin on Saturday night as he found himself front page news in the Stirling Observer.

The award-winning Radio Clyde presenter’s gig at Fallin Miners Welfare hit our headlines on Friday after a mystery objector tried to put a spanner in the works for the event.

Committee members considered the DJ’s GBX party night gig a coup for the small village club.

But an objector claiming to be a former member named John White and citing an address in Cowie had submitted written concerns to Stirling District Licensing Board leading to a last minute hearing last Wednesday. The objector had claimed it would be a “rave” with no control over entry, noise or drug use. Board members, however, unanimously approved the club’s application for an occasional licence after receiving assurances from club chairman John Laurie over stewarding, noise controls and ticket sales. Mr Laurie had said there was no record of “Mr White” - who didn’t show up at the hearing - and he had to assume the objection had been submitted under an assumed name.

Organisers suggested this week the attempt to scupper the night had “backfired”, only resulting in achieving more interest.

Several people took to social media after the show and certainly appeared to back the event.

Neil Connell said: “I think it’s folk doing parties complaining about other folk doing similar parties. I think it’s great they are doing these nights.”

And Mhari Riddell said: “It was a brill’ night.”

Christine Laurie added: “Amazing night, well done.”

Posting a photo of the DJ on social media holding a copy of the Stirling Observer’s front page, the club organisers said: “Looks very much like someone was having a good time of things last night. Put a big smile on the man himself ’s face when he was shown this.

“We would like to thank all the DJs on the night who helped make the night have such a great atmosphere from the very start, Stuart Hammell, Leon Moodie, Ryan Walker, Jonny Ruiz and Ross Campbell.

“Time for us to relax, but not for too long as we start to look at organising our next party night event.”

They also had a special thank you for the objector, adding: “Again thanks to everyone who joined us last night - and special thanks to`Mr White’ for all of the help he gave us is helping make last night go off so well.

“This is only the start of things to come — feeling buzzin at Fallin Miners.”

Club chairman John Laurie told the Observer: “It was probably one of the best nights we have had for a long time. It was a great atmosphere and even better than we expected.

“The police came to do a routine check and everything was fine they even posed for selfies. We had all sorts of ages from 18 up to people in their 50s. We will definitely be looking to do more like this in future.”
