Plaque for Tilli war memorial unveiled
A community council has been congratulated on its efforts to restore and conserve the town’s war memorials.
A plaque detailing the history of the Tillicoultry war memorial, in Moss Road, was unveiled last week. It commemorates the employees of the Devonvale Mill who gave their lives in World War Two.
Clacks and Dunblane MSP Keith Brown, who attended the ceremony, said: “The sacrifice of the men and women who died during the First and Second World Wars and other conflicts should never be forgotten which is why War Memorials like those in Tillicoultry are so important. They honour those who died and are a tangible reminder of our history and heritage and every effort should be made to maintain them for future generations.
He congratulated Tillicoultry Community Council for driving the project forward with funding support from a number of organisations including John Marshall, Alloa and District Round Table and the War MemorialsTrust.
Clacks North councillor Archie Drummond added: “Friday morning marked the end of the memorial conservation project with the unveiling of the heritage interpretation panels at three locations in Tillicoultry.
“I was pleased that our donors and sponsors were able to join with a large number of local people and some curious visitors to share this event.
“I hope that this will encourage others to seek out our local heritage and discover the numerous stories and characters that are waiting to be found.”
