- Court reporter

A man who caused a drunken disturbance at Craigs Roundabout was fined £400.

Andrew Brogan (26) shouted, swore, made threats and challenged others to fight during the incident on March 4 last year. He also struggled with a police officer, brandished his fists and waved his arms.

Stirling Sheriff Court heard this week that Brogan had gone to a taxi driver parked near the BP service station and told them he wanted a lift.

After the driver told him he had finished for the night Brogan kicked off, challenging him to a fight.

He told him: “I’ll take you on if you want to go”. He then swore at a woman working in the service station, calling her a cow before saying he would get his mother to knock her out.

Police were contacted saw Brogan behaving in an aggressive manner and challenging those present to fight. He then squared up to a police officer and struggled with him.

Defence solicitor Alan Wickham told the court that Brogan, of Shandwick Place, Edinburgh, has actually secured employment at another service station since this incident and is making positive changes in his life.

He said: “He has recently secured work at the Shell petrol station doing night shifts and he is due to start college in August.

“Mr Brogan has a record for alcohol-related offending.

“He used alcohol as a coping mechanism but is becoming more responsible. He is making changes to his life and lifestyle.”

Sheriff William Gilchrist told Brogan: “The report indicates you haven’t been using drugs and alcohol for some time and you are trying to turn your life around.

“I hope you moving to Midlothian will mark the end of your problems and I hope not to see you in Stirling Sheriff Court again.”
