Green Flag Stirling High School has been awarded a new eco-school Green Flag. This is the sixth successive flag award for the school and comes 11 years to the day from the first one. The school community continues to work to maintain our high standards in all eco-activities in school with extensive recycling and with partners in the wider community, including weekly litter picks with Torbrex Community Council members and projects with Friends of Kings Park. Particular thanks are due to the school’s Senior Technician Trudi Togneri who was recently awarded an Above and Beyond award by Stirling Council for her work supporting the eco group and the ecogroup members who continue to lead the work. On Thursday, March 30, members, together with Trudi Togneri (Eco Club leader); Valerie Milligan (Torbrex Community partner); Carolyne McDaid (Senior Service Manager, Stirling Council); Dugald MacGilp (Eco Schools, Keep Scotland Beautiful) and Paul Cassidy (head teacher) raised the latest flag. SQA Exam Diet 2017 All S4/5/6 pupils who are entitled to exam leave and are sitting exams or require to be in school at any time during exam leave must have full school uniform on at all times. Pupils who arrive at school without full school uniform on will be sent home. Pupils who are not sitting an exam and wish access to the school must sign in and sign out at the school office (you must be in full school uniform). Mobile phones are prohibited in the exam room and must be put into lockers or left at home. Please do not ask a member of school staff or invigilati­on staff to look after your phone during your exam. Aquathlon Beaconhurs­t are workThursd­ay, ing in partnershi­p with Triathlon Scotland to host the 2017 National Schools Aquathlon Championsh­ip at the University of Stirling later this month. The event, for pupils in S1-S6, takes place on Friday, April 21 and includes individual and mixed team relay events. In the individual competitio­n, pupils from S1 and S2 will face a 300m swim followed by a 2km run while those from S3 and S4 will swim 400m before running 3km. The race for S5 and S6 students involves a 500m swim and a 4km run. The mixed relay teams, in girl, boy, girl, boy format, will see each athlete swimming 200m and running 1km before tagging their team-mate. Beaconhurs­t pupils, including the school’s Triathlon scholars, will be taking part in the event while the school is also providing 30 volunteers to help as marshals and time-keepers. Schools from across Scotland are due to enter the popular annual event including pupils from Wallace, Dunblane and Stirling High Schools. Beaconhurs­t’s Director of Marketing Sheona Mathewson said: “We’re delighted to be involved in hosting the Schools Aquathlon Championsh­ip this year and looking forward to working with Triathlon Scotland at the event.”
