Thrilling new show flies in to Macrobert
An explosive show is set to premiere in Stirling.
Out of This World is being rehearsed at Beaconhurst School and the Macrobert.
The stunning piece - which will feature pyrotechnics and actors being propelled across the stage - will make its debut at the Stirling arts centre on April 21 and 22, before heading on a tour across the UK.
The show has been created by the man behind the 2014 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, Mark Murphy.
“We have been rehearsing at Beaconhurst for four weeks, and then are heading to the Macrobert for a fortnight,” he told the Observer.
“The school have been great with us, and have kindly given over their gym hall.
“Rehearsals are very important because of the multiple aspects we use to tell the story. There are video projections, actors flying across the stage and explosive effects. You have to eyes on the back of your head if you are making it, or if you are on stage.”
Set within a world of projected film and animation, it combines his signature mix of ground breaking aerial choreography, explosive special effects and emotionally raw storytelling in a show that is both intense psychological thriller and heartrending medical drama.
Mark said: “The show is a love story at heart, but it is very intense. It has a very powerful musical score and there are moments of the show where the story comes out right into the faces of the audience.”
Out of This World focuses on the story of a woman’s woozy descent through the layers of anesthesia into the depths of a medically-induced coma. Once safely cocooned, her crashed imagination takes over the show - creating a vivid inward cinema in which she is forced reevaluate her life. But after discovering a shocking revelation and with the medical team moving in for the kill, she must escape her subterranean safe house in a very real fight for life.
“There are six actors on stage and two riggers who hoist them up,” said Mark. “Six weeks isn’t a long time when you have so many elements. The rehearsals are going well though and the show is coming together.”
Out of This World visits the Macrobert on Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22, with shows at 7.30pm.
