Tony Callaghan (11) got his season off to a flier by winning the Millennium Medal on Saturday on 63 despite dropping three shots on the first two holes.

Further bogeys came at 6, 9 11 and 12 but a strong finish with birdies at 16 and 17 led to a level par back nine.

Best scratch score was returned by new member Steve Aitken with a two under par 67 with birdies at 2, 5, 9 and 10 and bogeys at 3 and 16.

First Class was won by Euan Douglas (6) on 67 and a better last three (bl3) than Neil Rankin (6). Third place went to Gordon Whitelaw (4) on 68 and better last hole thanks to a par five against Chris Gater’s only bogey on the back nine.

Jim Brough (14) continued last week’s form to win the Second Class on 67 highlighte­d by a birdie three at 5. Second place went to Sandy McDonald (12) on 69. Four players then returned 70 but third spot went to Russell Clarke (16) with better inward half (bih) including a birdie at 15 ahead of new member John Ward (14) who had a bih than Mick McGovern (12) whose bih beat 14-handicappe­r John Young’s round which was ruined by dropping seven shots at 10 and 11.

Third Class went to John Kilby (17) on 64 including birdie three at 5. Craig Wilson (19) was second on 65 and third place went to Gary Aitken (23), winner of the Winter Ringer, on 66 with Alan Mackay (22) fourth on 68 with a somewhat mixed round including a birdie two at 16 and quadruple bogeys at 8 and 14.

This weekend is the RNLI Trophy with play on Friday and Saturday.

Members are again reminded that entry books are available for the KO competitio­ns, gents, mixed and family foursomes and the Louis Pope Gents Fourball. Last date for entry is Monday, April 17.

Monthly Medal and Millennium Medal winner T Callaghan 74 (11) 63. David Kernohan playing in the worst of the weather on Friday in the April Medal, returning a level par round of 72 to finish second in Class 1. Greg McLennan, who was playing in the far better conditions on Saturday, maintained his consistent form from last year scoring a one under round of 71 with a two-under inward nine of 34. Russell Kerr with four three and a two at the sixth socred a three over par 75.

Pat Mooney scored a one over par inward nine of 37 after an outward 43 to win Class 2. Ian Wallace also had a great back nine of 38 to qualify for the Medal Finals. Brian Houston managed to win Class 3 despite a double bogey seven at the 13th in halves of 43 and 41.
