County to return to action

Stirling County will play their first friendly of the 2017 cricket season on Saturday against East League side Marchmont at New Williamfie­ld.

Before setting out on Western Union First Division action on April 29, County have two other friendlies at Ayr on April 15 – playing for the Irvin Iffla Trophy – and on April 22 at home to Ferguslie.

Young New Zealander Kevin Loggenberg returns as overseas amateur following his 2016 performanc­es which saw him take more than 30 wickets and score 400plus runs.

Senior training sessions have been taking place under the watchful eye of coach Ian Shaw at Dollar Academy for the past few weeks and outdoor training sessions resumes tomorrow (Thursday) from 6.15pm. Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday at the same time.

The club currently runs four senior sides – 1st XI, 2nd XI, Wednesday XI and a developmen­t side which plays on Sundays.

There is also a thriving ladies section and the girls have been training indoors at St Modan’s High School as well as playing in a number of indoor tournament­s over the winter. They begin their outdoor training on Friday, April 14 from 6.15pm.

The annual Junior Welcome Day takes place on Sunday, April 9. Following this event, junior training will recommence from Friday, April 21 and this year all age groups will train on the same evening – Kwik Cricketers from 6.15-7.15pm and hard ball players from 6.15-7.45pm.
