- Robert Fairnie

Cambusbarron is expected to be the next location for the popular TV series Outlander.

It is believed the production team responsible for the fantasy epic are preparing to pitch up in the Stirling area for up to a year to shoot parts of the new series.

The show, which is based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, has filmed locally before, including at Doune Castle.

A proposal of application notice (PAN) has been lodged with Stirling Council planners and initial talks held with community councillors.

Supervising location manager Hugh Gourlay, who has worked on films such as Fast & Furious 6 and Snow White and the Huntsman is eyeing Murrays Wood and Murrayshall Quarry as potential settings.

Stirling Observer Facebook readers reacted with enthusiasm to news that one of the world’s biggest TV shows is set to come to their doorstep.

Linda McKenna posted: “I think we will take some time off work and go Outlander stalking...”

Carmen Klassen added: “We’ll be taking some extra trips to Stirling I think.”

While a pair of binoculars and some walking boots might be on the mind of many, Jane Black is looking forward to settling down in front of the TV to watch the scenes.

She commented: “Can’t wait for season three to come on. Unfortunately it’s on Amazon Prime – good news I have Amazon Prime.”

Tina Fraser has another idea. She said: “Will get my flask and deck chairs ready.”
