Volunteers needed to help at marathon

-

Organisers of the Stirling Scottish Marathon are seeking volunteers to help out at next month’s event.

Around 200 people are being sought as marshals on the course, at the park-and- ride and at the start and finish lines.

The marathon will take place on May 21, with more than 6500 runners setting off from Blair Drummond Safari Park and finishing up beneath Stirling Castle.

The appeal for volunteers comes as Active Stirling step up their hunt for people to help with a number of events in the area.

Their new recruitment system called Volunteer Active Stirling has been launched to co-ordinate volunteering opportunities for all ages and abilities.

Chief executive Andrew Bain said:“This is an exciting new programme that will enhance great volunteering opportunities within physical activity and sport for the people of Stirling.

“Current opportunities we have include supporting the Great Run Company in recruiting volunteers for the Stirling Marathon.

“We also have various Active Stirling programmes, local sports clubs that are affiliated to the sport council and other partner organisations all looking for volunteers.”

Active Stirling are also working with Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise to recognise the volunteering commitment of young volunteers.
