Biker training centre revs up for fundraiser

`Ride out’ will mark milestone

- Chris Marzella

A Stirling-based motorbike training centre is set to mark its latest birthday by raising cash for charity.

Cameron Bike Training (CBT) in Back O’ Hill Road, Stirling are looking for local motorbike riders to turn out for a ‘ride out’ on Sunday, April 23, to raise cash for Scotland’s air ambulance and Bikers against Bullying.

Mother and son Rosie (56) and Calum (28) Cameron have organised the event to mark 25 years since they started — as Rosie gets set to hand over the business to Calum.

Rosie said: “I’m getting to the age where I maybe shouldn’t be riding as much, so Calum will take over with the day-to-day running of the place.

“I’ll still be around to give him help whenever he needs it.”

Rosie started Cameron Bike Training in Stirling in 1992 helping would-be motorcyclists from across Central Scotland prepare for their driving test.

She closed the business in 1999 after taking up a position with Pinnacle Auto centre and ran their training school until its closure in 2005 when she again started up CBT.

Rosie said: “To celebrate the 25 years since we began, we are having an open day on Sunday April 23, when we’ll be having a ride out and raising money for charity.

“We have no idea how many will turn up on the day for the ride out. I must have taught thousands of people over the years so it would be nice to see some of them turn up for the ride out.”

They have chosen Scotland’s Air Ambulance as one of the benefitting charities because of the work they do for injured motorcyclists.

Rosie added: “We think it’s an important service to have, especially for bikers and motorcyclists.”

Calum added: “They are important for motorcyclists — if you ever come off north of Callander, then you are in trouble because it’s not easy to get to.”

Calum admits that he is looking forward to officially taking over the business but says that is tinged with apprehension.

“It’s exciting and absolutely terrifying all at the same time but my mum will still be there to help out with tips and advice,” he added.

They are throwing a fun day at the training centre in the Back O’ Hill Road Industrial Estate from 9am on Sunday April 23, including custom bikes and a charity raffle.

The ride out is due to get underway at 1pm as they head as far as Tyndrum before returning back to Stirling via Loch Lomond.
