Runners enjoy campus caper
Fitness fanatics laced up their trainers for a 5k race at the University of Stirling last week.
A total of 179 runners took in the picturesque surroundings during the inaugural Campus 5K on the evening of Tuesday April 4.
The event, which was organised by sports management students, is now expected to become a key addition to the university calendar.
Niamh Kennedy, Sean McKend, Ann Taylor, BolanleOsitelu, Jun Song and Nicole Eadie were the students who organised the event.
And Niamh said: “The runners were great and their enthusiasm really created an enjoyable atmosphere.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for us as MSc Sport Management students to be able to put the event management skills we are learning as part of our course to use in the ‘real world’.
“We are looking forward to seeing the event grow in the coming years.”
Cathy Gallagher, director of sport at the university, insists she is delighted with the work of the students in staging such a successful event.
She said: “Our inaugural Campus 5K was a great success and brought hundreds of staff, students and members of the local community together.
“It was wonderful to work with the group of sports management students to bring the event to life – the team did a tremendous job in bringing it together and it was great to see so many runners take part and enjoy themselves.
“As Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, we’re committed to providing an exciting programme of events throughout the year to promote an active, healthy lifestyle.
“We were delighted to host the Campus 5K for the first time in the university’s 50th anniversary year and I’m confident the race will become a key calendar date in the years to come.”
