MAKING A SPLASH

£80k upgrade of outdoor pool at Campsie Glen site

- Johm Rowbotham

A Stirlingshire holiday park has completed an £80,000 upgrade of its outdoor heated swimming pool.

The Campsie Glen complex at Fintry has erected a new enclosure over the pool, installed changing rooms and toilets, re-surfaced the floor and added a new baby pool heated to 30 degrees centigrade.

Bruce Thomson, operations manager for the owners of the park, Wood Leisure, commented: “We are committed to investing in our parks and facilities to deliver value to the families from Scotland and beyond.

“This significant investment supports our long-term growth and development plans while benefiting our customers, wider community and Scottish economy.”

The new Perspex enclosure is an aluminium and acrylic structure designed to shelter the pool area from any icy blasts blowing across the site from the surrounding hills. Both swimming pools run on an air-source heating system, adding to the park’s reputation for using new and efficient energy systems.

In 2015, Campsie Glen became the first park in UK to install a communityowned biomass district heating system for park homes.

The system supplies 26 residential homes and bar and bistro with heating and hot water and has cut down carbon emissions by 112 tonnes a year. Npower and Stirling Council paid half the £600,000 cost of the scheme and the Scottish Government provided a lowinterest loan. Campsie Glen, formerly called Balgair Castle Holiday Park, is one of five holiday parks in Scotland owned by the Wood family. Purchased in 2010, it has gone through ground and structural upgrading throughout and received a four-star grading from Visit Scotland. The site has 12 staff but the number increases during summer with seasonal employees. It extends to over 27 acres and comprises 115 pitches with caravan holiday homes for sale and hire, 63 touring and 20 tenting pitches, camping pods and newly-made lodge pitches to site two- and three-bedroom wooden lodges available to hire. Other new developments include an upgraded and relocated reception. A new toilet block, laundry facilities, games room and bar toilets are programmed for either this year or next.
