Michael wants to focus on local issues rather than national ones.

“I think it’s important that we focus on the local services that Stirling Council offers and how these are delivered to people living in the Forth and Endrick ward that I live in, and not be distracted by issues that local councillors have no authority over.

It is thanks to the Scottish Green Party that Holyrood recently agreed an additional £160 million for local councils.

We need a strong Green voice to ensure that this results in real improvements in services, whether this be in terms of education at all levels, better public transport links that are so vital in our rural areas, or support for those trying to work and run businesses in the villages.

We want to offer a“Living Wage Plus”to carers, committing to £9.20 an hour, thereby helping recruitment and service for this vital part of the economy.

A key issue in this area is the ongoing development of renewable energy. In villages like Fintry we have a great example of how this has really played a key role in developing the community, and as renewables continue to become more widely available, I want to see local communities benefiting much more directly from renewables, both in terms of support from development, and in reducing fuel costs.

Above all, I want people to feel connected and empowered to voice their opinions on local issues, and thereby make their communities better places to live and work in.”
