Murray busts in Monte Carlo
Andy Murray’s return to action came to an abrupt halt yesterday when he lost to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
Murray had won the first set comfortably by 6-2 as the Spaniard lost all four of his service games before eventually holding serve in the tenth game of the match to inspire a run of five straight games for the World No. 24.
In the decider, Murray surged to a 4-0 lead but Ramos-Vinolas responded to get back to 4-4. The Spaniard broke again and although one match point opportunity went a-begging he reached his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 quarterfinal on his second chance.
Murray was playing his first tournament since being beaten in the second round at Indian Wells in March and in the previous round he defeated Gilles Muller (Luxembourg) in straight sets in the second round on Wednesday, admitting afterwards his elbow injury was still causing him some problems.
Big brother Jamie and his doubles partner Bruno Soares made a winning start yesterday against Germany’s Tommy Haas and Treat Huey (Philippines) in a second round match. The Scottish/Brazilian duo won 6-3 6-2.
