A young man has admitted possessing thousands of indecent images of children.

Stuart Jack Millar was found with more than 40,000 indecent photographs and hundreds of videos of children.

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to having photographs or pseudo-photographs of children at a house in Sunnylaw Road, Bridge of Allan, between December 18, 2014, and September 12 of last year.

Fiscal depute Sarah Lumsden last Wednesday told Stirling Sheriff Court police received information that a device at the property in Bridge of Allan had been used to download indecent images.

She said: “A warrant was executed on September 12, 2016, whereby police attended at the address where the accused was with his mum and dad. The accused pointed out his devices that were accessible to the internet, and an initial examination of a laptop found indecent images thereon.”

Police found 40,886 indecent images on the laptop. Of these, 309 were classified category A, 3205 were category B and 37,372 were category C. Police also found 537 indecent movies on the device.

Ken Dalling, defending Millar, who gave an address in Troon, called for the case to be deferred for reports.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson adjourned the case until June 7 for the preparation of a social work report and advised Millar that he will now be subject to the notification requirements of the appropriate legislation.

His bail was continued.
