Safety fear over abandoned car in residential street

-

Picture by Dave Walsh A man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a young motorist in a road accident near the Keir Roundabout last week.

The 25-year-old man died after the Honda Civic he was driving was involved with a three-vehicle collision on the A9, approaching the roundabout, near Dunblane at around 6.25pm on Thursday.

His passenger, a 26-year-old woman, remains in hospital with serious injuries after the smash, which also involved a Volvo articulated lorry and a Mercedes Sprinter van.

Van driver Ion Rusu (41) appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court on Monday, charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Traffic was backed up for miles as the A9 was closed in both directions until around midnight on Thursday.

Police, ambulance and fire crews from Dunblane, Doune and Bridge of Allan were in attendance and an air ambulance was also called to the scene.

Sergeant Michael Montague asked anyone who saw the collision to contact police on 101. Concerns have been raised about a car parked dangerously in the Kings Park area.

Residents fear that a grey Saab, which has been left on Queen’s Road near to the junction with Balmoral Place, could cause an accident.

They say that motorists leaving the Balmoral Place junction and turning left are forced to overtake, risking a collision with oncoming traffic planning to turn right.

The vehicle is said to have been parked on double yellow lines since Saturday evening, with both the police and local authority made aware.

Richard Robertson said: “The car has been left on a bend of a main road and it has been there for a number of days.

“It’s a busy road and it’s causing vehicles to swerve around it.

“I think there really should be somebody out uplifting it before there is an accident.”

Stirling Council say that as this is defined as dangerous or obstructive parking it is a matter dealt with by the police.

Police told the Observer that they were unaware of the vehicle but were yesterday (Tuesday) sending officers out to look into the matter.

Enforcement teams from the local authority began patrols in the city centre last month and have been issuing tickets to vehicles parked dangerously with the help of the police.

They will formally take over parking enforcement next month.
