Marathon challenge
Fiona to take on five events
A Stirling woman is looking to test her newfound fitness by competing in the inaugural Stirling Marathon.
Fiona Perrie shed an amazing eight stone in less than a year, and has ran more than 500 miles in the past 12 months .
To mark her achievement she is set to take on five gruelling challenges in a month.
Fiona will start with the Stirling Marathon on May 21, followed by the Edinburgh Half Marathon a week later, a 31-mile Ultra Marathon, Tough Mudder on June 17 and the Mhor Half Marathon in Balquhidder on June 24.
But the five events she is taking part in to raise money for Stirling Citizens Advice Bureau are just some of the challenges she has lined up for this year.
Fiona said: “Running a marathon was always on my bucket list but more as a dream than a reality, then in April 2016 I started running to help with my fitness and weight loss.
“Eight stone lighter and over 500 miles later I decided a marathon could be a reality but because I don’t like to do things by halves I have signed up for over 16 events in 2017, including my first marathon.
“Most people I know can’t believe it, with me the word ‘marathon’ was more likely to be used in connection with food or movies!”
Fiona (35), who works as a marketing planning manager at Prudential, said she wanted to run for CAB to help raise funds and awareness of the Stirling charity.
“It is a great charity which changes people and families’ lives by providing free, expert and impartial advice on a variety of issues from housing, legal and numerous social issues. In addition, specialised staff help with mental health, support for armed services families and people suffering with domestic violence.
“Despite being used by central and local government for many services, it receives virtually no funding from either.”
So far, Fiona has raised £450 of her £1000 target. To donate, visit mydonate. bt.com/fundraisers/ fionaperrie1
Stirling CAB still have places available for the 5K race, which takes place on the same day as the marathon. Participants will get a free massage, t-shirt and hospitality from the charity, in return for raising a minimum of £95.
