Europa hosts several musicians and bands

- Chris Marzella

A Stirling record store hosted several local musicians to mark Independent Record Store Day.

Europa Music on Friars Street staged a celebration to mark the 10th annual event on Saturday afternoon (April 22).

The event has become the record store’s busiest day of the year and it was no exception this time as music lovers turned out to hear a host of independent acts.

Among the performers on the day were rapper, CRPNTR, punk band, The Media Whores, rockers Corryvreckan and roackabilly band, Bad Boogaloo.

The shop is one of thousands that take place in a global celebration of independent record retail.

People even queued up overnight on Friday to get their hands on some limited edition vinyl records on sale in the shop on Saturday.

Amongst the limited edition releases this year were over 560 exclusive releases, including David Bowie, Prince, the Beatles and U2.

The event got started at noon and ran until 6pm in the bustling street.

Europa’s Ewen Duncan said: “It was a very busy day. In terms of customers, we beat last year’s total and the 2016 figure was already up by 50 per cent on the year before.

“The whole of Saturday was mobbed and all of the local places that provide refreshments also did well.

“It was very good for businesses at our end of the town. It just brought people to Friars Street.”
