Worthy effort from Bridgehaugh girls

-

Stirling County’s ladies rugby team are hoping to build on a promising season despite a disappointing defeat in the final of the BT Women’s Plate at Murrayfield on Saturday.

The Bridgehaugh girls unfortunately went down 29-17 to Stewartry Sirens but a proud skipper Rachel Shankland was delighted with her team’s efforts.

“This season our priority was to retain our Premiership status in what is a very strong and competitive league,” said Rachel.

“With that achieved we were able to concentrate on the cup competitions and reaching the Plate Final at BT Murrayfield and whilst the result against Stewartry didn’t go our way it was a great game for the squad.

“The atmosphere for the match was fantastic and our players put in a real team performance, coming together to show what we can do, with a dominating and convincing first half. Stewartry upped their game in the second half, and managed to scrape past to claim the win, but Stirling women are proud of their performance and can’t wait to build from this into the next season.

“We’ve welcomed a host of new players, many new to the game throughout the season with the team growing year on year”.

The season isn’t over for the ladies and on Saturdy, April 29, they are hosting a Give It A Go Session at Bridgehaugh from 2-4pm, open to all interested girls. For further info email Stirlingtryrugby@ gmail.com.
