Talk winds up group’s season
The Balfron Heritage Group season comes to a close on Thursday, May 11, with an illustrated talk on Scotland’s oldest lending library at Innerpeffray.
This was founded in 1680, in a rural location, beside the River Earn in Perthshire, and 2011 was the 400th anniversary of the birth of its founder David, 3rd Lord Madertie.
The Keeper of Books, Lara Haggarty, aims to bring alive the history of the library, its founder and the books it houses at the talk in the John McLintock Hall.
The evening will begin at 7.30pm followed by tea and time for a chat. It is free to members and £1.50 for visitors.
The Alexander Greek Thomson exhibition, in the library, is drawing to a close next week, to make room for several other exciting activities which are planned for Balfron Library on Friday, May 12, as part of the Off the Page festival. Anyone who has not had a chance to visit the exhibition will find it open during library hours and until 6pm on Tuesday, May 16.
Spokesman Jim Thomson said: “The Heritage Group would like to thank all those who have taken part in the April bicentennial celebrations for Alexander Thomson, all of which were well attended. The new interpretation boards, which will be cited at either end of the Greek Thomson path and were funded by the Heritage Lottery Celebration Fund, will be erected soon so look out for these.”
On Saturday, May 20, a guided walk of the Balfron Kirk yard will begin at the gates at 11am. This free walk will last around one hour.
