Springmeet isarealblaze of colour

-

Oranges and Lemons was the theme of the community work at the Spring meeting in Bridge of Allan Church Hall last Saturday.

With 14 tables of splendid craft work around the hall, the colour was intense, plenty to see and admire, with the afternoon tea entries, sewn oven gloves, special tables of craft work from Tillicoultry and Blairlogie and District Institutes and a splendid display of shining silver trophies to be won.

Federation chairman Mary Young welcomed a full attendance and requested help for Gardening Scotland, the Highland Show, and hoped that many members had visited the Centenary Exhibition in Edinburgh in April. It had received a visit from Princess Anne. The Centenary Year National Project is the SandpiperTrust.

In the Smith Institute Gallery and Museum, Stirling, from July 14 to August 27, the Federation plans an exhibition of crafts celebrating Centenary Year and members are asked to show their craft work.

The necessary forms are available from the office and a splendid success like the 1995 one is hoped for.

The main centenary celebration is a National Tea Party around Scotland on Sunday July 2 and our Federation one is at Queen Victoria School, Dunblane at 2pm. Entertainment and refreshments, indoor if wet.

It is hoped all members and former members and friends will attend. Tickets are £6.50.

Reports were heard from the Guild and Sports Conveners. The golf competition will take place at Muckhart on May 24 and the outdoor bowling at Balfron on June 15.

Raymond Pratt, retired police officer, humorously told of his years of training and service with Strathclyde Police, much different from his present post as General Secretary of SWI. Courtesy remarks were made by Daphne Clark, Hillfoots Group, and an excellent raffle preceded a sumptious tea served by Central Group.

Orders for 2018 calendars and diaries must reach the Stirling office by May 30 and the office closes on Thursday June 8 and reopens on Wednesday August 16.
