Proceeds to Kippen Church. Buchlyvie Golf Society The society’s first outing of the year took place on Saturday when members played the West Course at Dalmahoy Country Club just outside Edinburgh. Despite being early in the golf season the course was in excellent condition. Playing to three quarter handicaps, John Retson was the winner with 41 points. This was the first time one of the society’s outings has been won with a score of over 40. Adrian Pirie and David Brown were both on 33 points, with Adrian being runner up as a result of a better inward nine. Derek McCallion won the prize for Nearest the Pin. There were no magic 2s scored so the prize money will roll over to the next outing which takes place at Crieff Golf Club in June. WI news The next meeting on Tuesday, May 9 will be the AGM. The invited speaker will be Anne Muirhead who will talk about her time working in Cornton Vale. There will be a pot luck supper and members are reminded to bring their contributi­on of a sweet or savoury dish , as well as cutlery, a dinner plate, a dessert plate and a wine glass. Donations for the final raffle will be most welcome.

Display The flowering bulbs around the church have been lovely this spring, first the snowdrops, then crocus, and for recent weeks the large wrought iron egg sculpture by the church door is full of colourful plants and foliage. In the high garden many trees are covered in lovely blossom, as they have been at spring Communion time for many years. Bowling Club The dry spell, with cold wind, continues, but members enjoyed a rink games on Monday night, with points gained by Jay McDonald, Eileen Mayhew, Fraser Wilson, Margaret Strang, George Goodall, Andy Mayhew, George Cooper and Max Taylor The first club competitio­n of the season starts on Sunday, May 7 with the playing of the Crown Triples. Any club members wishing to take part should arrive at the green for a prompt 1.30pm start. Community Council Members of the public may attend when the council meets in the Reading Room on Tuesday, May 9 at 7.15pm. A Stirling councillor will consult from 6.45pm. School Pupils of Primaries 4-7 are staging this year’s school show “The Pied Piper” in the village hall on Tuesday, May 16 at 1.30pm and on Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18 at 7pm. Tickets are available from pupils or from the school office, open Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is the last chance to submit recipes for the cookery book the school plans to sell at the Street Fayre on June 10.
