Thorn dished out a harsh lesson to Doune as they recorded an impressive league win on Wednesday night.

The visitors absorbed an intense spell of early Castle pressure before taking the lead with a deflected goal and then added a second within a minute.

Thorn then dispelled any hope of a Castle fightback with a further two goals in two minutes at the start of the second period.

Doune had a first minute goal harshly disallowed before the keeper made fine saves from James Graham and Chris Ogilvie.

Thorn took a 1-0 lead after 27 minutes. Steven Fotheringham looked as if he had covered Smith’s low shot but the ball struck Graham McClymont’s heel and was deflected into the net with Fotheringham stranded.

Sixty seconds later it was 2-0 when Smith latched on to a loose ball and drove at Steven Fotheringham. The ball rebounded kindly to the striker who drilled a low shot into the far corner of the net from 14 yards.

After 47 minutes, Thorn went three-up when Devine dragged the ball wide of Fotheringham before netting then two minutes later, Smith completed his hat-trick - and the scoring.

Doune tried hard and came close a couple of times but Thorn were worthy winners.
