SOUP’s in awards melting pot for work in community
A Stirling charity initiative has been recognised for its success.
Stirling SOUP is in the running for a 2017 Scottish Charity Award for its work in the community.
The grassroots event, run 13 volunteers with the support of people and organisations from across Stirling, was setup a year ago.
Sessions are held at which charities make pitches to a paying audience who also enjoy a bowl of soup. All funds raised go to the charity that wins the most votes at the end of the night.
The group has donated £2,000 to local causes in its first year, but also connected projects with new volunteers and supporters, bringing new partnerships together and raising awareness of the work that’s going on in the community.
Kathryn Welch, founder of Stirling SOUP, said:“We are thrilled to bits to be shortlisted for the Celebrating Community award.
“To be shortlisted is a fantastic testament to the energy of our volunteers, supporters and community, who have really pulled together to make Stirling SOUP a success. Stirling SOUP is a model of what can happen when communities pull together, and a testament to what can be achieved with no money, but with bags of energy, enthusiasm and determination. Vote for us to celebrate the power of people and communities, and to inspire more people to make positive changes in their own community”.
All shortlisted entries for the awards, organised by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), will also compete for the People’s Choice Award which will be decided by the public via online voting. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the EICC, Edinburgh on Thursday, June 22.
