Kirstein works as a professor of Social Policy at Stirling University and is a founder member of the Women’s Equality Party. Her campaign is to support properly funded social care, end violence against women, get equal pay and fair treatment in the media for women, get equal numbers of women in politics, fair health treatment, and equal education.

She’s a carer, disabled person, working mother and mental health advocate, a keen singer and dancer and amateur chocolate taster. She wants to fix politics so it reflects what we care about rather than tribal party loyalties.

Kirstein said:“A vote for the Women’s Equality Party is not a‘wasted’vote, even though WE are small. It is a vote for equality and fairness.

“Why have we sleepwalked into the crisis in social care funding? Why do we still have a gender pay gap?

“Why are one in five women still experiencing rape and sexual assault? Why are only a third of our elected politicians women? Why do we not fund childcare properly? Why are women still subject to sexism?

“Why do we not share parenting and caring equally? Why do we not teach about sex and relationships properly in schools?

“The reason is that we see these things as‘women’s issues’ and other political parties don’t prioritise them. But cuts to social care hit disabled people, carers and the NHS.

“Sexual doesn’t just harm the victims, it harms the perpetrators and relationships, and the cost of domestic violence per year is £3.1billion, with a further £2.7 billion cost to the economy

“The Women’s Equality party will work with other parties to change this.”
