Steven was born is Stirling and grew up in Cambusbarron where he still lives, attending Cambusbarron Primary School and Stirling High School before studying at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, and completing a joint honours degree in History and Politics at Stirling University.

In his professional life, after working in Canada following university, Steven worked for the local tourist board, then in the office of Bruce Crawford MSP, and was elected to Stirling Council in 2007 for the Stirling East Ward and returned in the elections in 2012. He was elected as Member of Parliament for the Stirling constituency in May 2015.

Steven enjoys a range of sports, and is a keen supporter of the Scotland football team, attending most matches in the firm hope and expectation that a successful qualifying campaign cannot elude us much longer.

He said:“This election gives voters in the Stirling constituency a clear choice between an increasingly right-wing and out of control Tory UK Government or the SNP’s outward-looking vision for Scotland.

“This is the same Tory Government that has brought about the disgusting rape clause, requiring a woman to prove that she has been raped in order to receive support if she has more than two children and already the they have indicated their plans to cut state pensions and bring further devastating cuts to welfare support for disabled people.

“To date, there has only been one party in Westminster that has consistently stood up for Scotland in the face of callous Tory policies and now more than ever, it is vital that Scotland’s voice is heard as Theresa May marches the UK towards a hard Brexit cliff edge.

“After the local council elections earlier this month, it is clear that the only way to stop theTories from winning in Stirling is by voting SNP and I hope that you will lend me your support on June 8.”
