Alan’s effort will help CAB

- Gareth Jones

A solicitor is looking forward to bringing his‘running addiction’to Stirling.

Alan Cox, who works at Barton & Hendry in Murray Place, will take on the Stirling marathon this weekend to raise money for the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Having competed in the Dublin and Manchester marathons last year, Alan can’t wait to tackle the new course.

“I’m looking forward to it, it’s far more close to home and is great to run in Scotland,”he said.“I have done a couple of‘reccy runs’of the course, certainly the city parts but not in the more rural areas.”

A keen runner for a while, Alan decided to take on marathons following the death of his wife Lorna from a brain tumour in 2014.

Since then he has raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support and St Andrew’s Hospice, and opted for the Stirling CAB as it also a cause that is close to his heart.

Alan said:“CAB is something I have had a connection with for a while. I was previously a director of the CAB in Airdie, and have also provided welfare and legal advice.”

The Stirling CAB is one of the many charities that is set to benefit from the marathon this weekend, with runners turning out in force for causes they care about.

“We hope that by being the Stirling marathon’s only affiliated charity partner for the Stirling district area we will be able to highlight that we are a charity which provides life-changing services, and is not a government funded body,”said CAB’s Colin Crawford.

“We also hope our runners in the marathon will also help raise funds which will keep our critical services open and free to anyone in the area in their time of need.”
