Tuning up for music festival

Revellers will be heading to a rural Stirlingsh­ire village next weekend for an annual music event.

The fifth Strathyre Music Festival takes place from Friday, May 26, until Sunday, May 28.

It will feature a free open festival market place in the car park area immediatel­y in front of the village shop, while the main venue will be in the Forestry car park.

New to the festival this year in the Market Place is a second venue called the Market Stage.

Festival passes will be required to access the music and bar tent. There will be free access to the festival market place, in the village car park outside of the village shop, and there will be a busking stage.

Ticket prices will be £5 per day and it’s free for under 16s.

Confirmed to perform are Riverside Ceilidh Band from Stirling, who are headlining on Friday night.

Topping the bill on Saturday night will be five–piece blues band, Mudslide.

The final night of the festival will be headlined by Glasgow-based Papa Shandy and the Drams.

Strathyre folk band – Balvaig – will perform from 6.30pm on Friday night.

Scottish/Irish folk band, Fir Na Ma, take to the stage on Friday whilst Glasgow soul singer, Hugh Kelly performs on Sunday. Stirling area band, The Wanted Men, will also perform on Sunday.

Festival chairman Mike Keeney said: “Please be sure to visit the Market Place in the centre of our village.

“The market will be opened on Saturday morning at 11am and Sunday from 12pm.

“With all local produce and crafts on display, it makes it well worth a gander.

“For the first time this year we have The Market Stage. Acoustic by nature, this is our second music venue in the village.”

The festival takes place on Friday from 6.30pm until 12.30am, Saturday from 1pm until 1am and Sunday from 2pm until midnight.
