Rowing star Elaine is a real record-breaker

Seafarer picks up top honour

- Gareth Jones

Dunblane adventurer Elaine Hopley has officially been confirmed as a record breaker.

At a ceremony in London last weekend, Elaine was presented with a certificate confirming her Guinness World Record for becoming the fastest woman to solo row across the Atlantic.

And she will talk about her 59-day Atlantic crossing at a special event at the Albert Halls on Monday, June 12.

“It all felt a bit surreal,” said Elaine.

“There were quite a few people picking up records on the night, and people would just stand there and look at the record when they were called on stage. “I did exactly the same! “A film was out of all the experiences of all the teams taking part in the race.

“It was good to watch as you don’t really know much about Atlantic Challenge on February 12, having travelled from the Canary Islands to Antigua.

Through the challenge, she raised thousands of pounds for Alzheimer Scotland in memory of her mum Jan.

And she will tell her amazing story – which includes being attacked by a jellyfish and fighting massive storms – at the Albert Halls event.

She added: “I’m really looking forward to it.

“I think people are interested to hear how I did it.

“I just want to keep the ball rolling really. I have kept the costs as low as possible for the event, so hopefully people will be able to contribute a little bit to the charity.”

Tickets for the event are on sale now at £10.60 from the Albert Halls, by calling 01786473544 or at culturestirling.org
